The Abercothi Fishery is widely regarded as containing the best section of fishing on the River Towy. This prolific sea-trout and salmon river has an enviable reputation throughout the angling world for the quality of its fishing. It has previously been described as the ‘Best in Britain’ by the Salmon and Trout Magazine (1990). The fishery is located four miles above Carmarthen at Nantgaredig. It has three miles of nearly all double bank on the Towy with a further mile on the Cothi at its junction with the Towy. The Fishery is divided into three beats; Abercothi, Junction & Llwch Gwyn which rotate daily at 7am. |

The best year in the 1980’s produced a total declared catch of 9,580 sea-trout with an average weight of 2lbs. In 1988, of all the fifty famous sea-trout rivers in Wales officially recorded, almost a quarter of the 30,685 fish caught came from a single river system, the Towy (7,134 fish). The Abercothi Fishery tends to average about 10% of the total catch for the whole River Towy catchment for both sea-trout and salmon. Sewin, 12lbs. from Sir John’s, ·Sewin were caught from 33 different pools (28 – 2004). The catches from
different Beats were : Abercothi 251 sewin, 10 salmon Salmon · 26 Salmon
caught in total (40 – 2004).
