Special
A stunning snake fly and easily
my best seller. Comprising of pearl mylar over 25lb braid to a size
10 Kamasan B990 tube fly treble. The smolt blue Arctic fox hair wings
are highlighted by two strands each of red and blue mirror flash and
blue crystal flash. The fly is finished with 2 side cheeks of Metz grizzle
hackles. This is a good fly for fresh run fish and does well as a dusk
fly on an intermediate line.
The Bronze Stoat
A very successful fly in 2005
, that did well on many rivers across the country. I have great faith
in the body material which is Rumpf bronze Arizona braid. This material
is no longer available, I originally came across it after being given
it as a freebie by US Ebay seller Ed Landis. I tied this pattern with
it and was so pleased with it I bought Ed's remaining stock of the braid.
The flying treble is tied on 25 lb braid under silver mylar. The black
hair wings are highligted with 2 strands of black crystal flash and
finished off with AA grade jungle cock cheeks

Silver
The first choice of many sea trout
anglers, classic simple colours of silver mylar over 25lb braid to a
Kamasan B990 treble, black hairwings and AA grade jungle cock to finish
the fly off.
Green Highlander Variant
The classic colours of this traditional
fly adapted to the snake fly. This is primarily a day time fly for salmon.
The pearlescent green mylar body is mounted over 25lb braid to a Kamasan B990
tube fly treble. The hook is dressed with yellow Arctic fox tail wisks and
golden silk counterwound with gold oval tinsel and a butt of peacock herl.
The hair wings are layers of yellow ,red and green bucktail and finished off
with side cheeks of AA grade jungle cock
Lumisnake
This is a snake fly deigned to be seen
on the darkest night with small diameter luminous mylar over 25lb braid to
a Kamasan B990 tube fly treble. The black hair wings are highlighted with
2 strands of pearl crystal flash and the head has silver chain bead eyes with
luminous red pupils in the centre.
Blackadder
Dark and devious not unlike the TV character
this fly has done well when fished as a sunk lure late at night on a fast
sinking line and short leader. Tied on 25lb braid under a black mylar body,
the Kamasan B990 treble has tail whisks of golden pheasant tippet and a gold
target target band. The black hair wings are highlighted with 2 strands of
black crystal flash. Down each side of the fly is a slim black Metz hackle
and AA grade jungle cock cheeks
Alexandra Variant
One of the oldest patterns adapted to
the snake fly. Silver holographic mylar over 25lb braid to a kamasan B990
treble. The black hair wings over overlaid with peacock sword and highlighted
with 2 strands of red holographic mylar. AA grade jungle cock cheeks add a
finishing touch to the fly.
Medicine Snake
A variation of the classic colours of
the Medicine given the snake fly treatment. The construction is 25lb braid
under silver mylar to a Kamasan B990 tube fly treble which has a butt of Red
holgraphic mylar.
The smolt blue Arctic fox hair wings
are overlaid with 4 strands of peacock herl and a pair of slim Metz Grizzle
side hackles finish the fly off.
Spate Special
This is the fly I wouldn't be without
in a falling spate. It is designed to be very visible and I fish it as soon
as I can see it in 8" of water on a clear intermediate line. It is very
effective at picking off resting fish in shallow water just off the current
and is equally effective to salmon and sea trout. I detest spinning and fish
the fly a lot earlier than most.
The construction is 25lb braid under
gold mylar to a Kamasan B990 tube fly treble. Yellow arctic fox tail whisks
highlighted with Orange Rumpf rainbow flash. The head is Yellow Arctic fox
throat with an orange Llama hair wing, 2 strands of gold mirror flash and
2 strands of Orange rainbow flash. AA grade jungle cock cheeks finish the
fly off
This black and purple snake fly designed
primarily for hunting sea trout after dark has a hidden attraction. Tied on
purple mylar over 25lb braid to a size 10 Kammasan B990 treble, the inner
braid core has been coated with blue luminous powder. This gives off a very
slim vein like glow which is nicely muted down by the mylar. The black bucktail
wings are highlighted with 2 strands of purple holographic mylar and 2 strands
of UV crystal flash. The fly is finished with AA grade jungle cock for that
added X factor.
